SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 

The race will consist of two (2) windward-leeward races of approximately six (6) miles, or less if a shortened course is necessary. There will be approximately a one hour break between races. All participants must monitor channel 80 VHF for race information. The Race Committee (RC) will not be responsible for boats not receiving new instructions. The RC will ask all boats to confirm reception of race information.

 

Starting Area
The starting area will be at approximately N 45.59.40 and W 82.00.77, approximately 1.2 miles south of East Rouse Island. The exact location will be announced at five (5) minute intervals on channel 80 VHF starting at approximately 9:30 AM.

Scoring
The winners will be determined by adding their finishes in each race and the lowest score wins. In case of a tie the corrected time in each race will be added together and the combined lowest time will win.

 

Course and Marks
Distances between marks are approximately one and one half (1.5) statue miles. The starting line RC boat shall display a placard and announce on channel 80 VHF the approximate magnetic bearing to the windward mark. All marks shall be inflatable yellow pyramid buoys. All marks shall be rounded to port except at the finish as noted below under finish line. Refer to diagrams below for further information.

 

Start Line
The starting line shall be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the starting line RC boat at the starboard end and a yellow pyramid buoy at the port end.

 

Finish Line
Boats shall finish between a staff displaying an orange flag on the RC boat and the yellow pyramid buoy.

 

Full Course
A full course shall consist of two windward legs and two leeward legs, for a total of six (6) statue miles.

 

Shortened Course- A shortened course shall consist of one windward leg and one leeward leg and will be signaled by the shortened course flag displayed on the RC boat and will be announced on channel 80 VHF. Boats will finish between the mark and the RC boat.

 

Time Limit- The time limit for each race shall be three (3) hours.

Awards Dinner
The Awards dinner will be held at the Anchor Inn with cocktails starting at 6:00 PM and dinner at 7:00 PM.

 

Protests
The RC must be notified at the time of finish if a protest is to be filed and the protest will be heard at the clubhouse immediately after the race. The RC will notify the parties of the time on channel 80 VHF.
