  1. The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) with Canadian Prescriptions (CYA Prescriptions attached), the Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions.

  2. Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board at the Mackinac Island Yacht Club, CYC office in Gore Bay, or on the notice board at the Little Current Yacht Club, as applicable.

  3. Class flags and class splits will be distributed at registration.

  4. The Courses:
    There will be two legs to the race (Course Layout »).

    Leg one will start east of Mackinac Island and north of the shipping channel at approximately 84 35.9 W, 45 50.9 N, FLR R-2. Proceed at approximately 95 degrees to the entrance to False Detour Passage at approximately 83 32 20 W, 45 53 41 N; thence approximately 40 degrees to the North Channel; thence leaving Manitoulin Island to starboard proceed to the Gore Bay finish line, located between JE2 off of Town Point and a yellow mark, leaving JE2 to starboard.

    Leg two will start north of the Gore Bay Harbor at approximately 45 55 36N, 82 27 28 W. Proceed northeast leaving Clapperton Island to starboard; thence southeast in the channel between Clapperton and Amedroz Islands, leaving J71 Logan Reef to starboard; thence southeast, leaving J66 James Foot Patch to port, to buoy J63 located at approximately 45 59 29 N, 81 58 57 W, leaving J63 to starboard; thence to J61 located at approximately 45 59 30 N, 80 57 50 W, leaving J61 to starboard; and proceed to the finish in the vicinity of J45 located at the Eastern tip of Spider Island approximately 81 55 40W and 45 59 10 N, leaving the yellow mark to port.

  5. The starts will run using RRS 26. Drawings of the start and finish lines are attached (pg. 5-6).
    Boats must have their motor turned off at least five minutes before their start.

    Boats whose warning signal has not been made should avoid the start area when the warning flag for another class is up.

    The start line for leg one at Mackinac Island will be between the R-2 mark and an orange flag on the Race Committee boat.
    Attention sound signals for leg one will be made at 11:00 hours July 22, 2010, five minutes before the first warning signal.

    The start line for leg two at Gore Bay will be between an orange flag on the committee boat and a yellow mark at the port end of the line.
    Attention sound signals for leg two will be made at 09:00 hours on July 24, 2010, five minutes before the first warning signal.

    Order of starts for leg one at Mackinac is as follows:

  6. The finish line for leg one will be between a yellow mark and JE2, the red buoy off of Town Point, which shall be left to starboard.
    All yachts shall attempt to contact the Race Committee on VHF channel 80 when they are approximately five (5) nautical miles from the finish in Gore Bay.

    The finish line for leg two, will be between an orange flag onshore at the Eastern end of Spider Island In the vicinity of J45 and a yellow mark which shall be left to port.

    In event of a shortened course, the finish will be between the code flag “S” on the committee boat and a mark of the course (ie. J61, J66, J71).

    Yachts shall contact the Race Committee on VHF radio channel 80 after finishing for docking instructions.

  7. Courtesy Broadcasts:
    An unofficial designated observer may report all visual signals displayed by the Race Committee over VHF radio channel 80. Information so reported is provided as a courtesy to competitors and does not alter the competitors’ responsibility to observe the Race Committee’s visual signals, which govern the conduct of the racing. Errors or emissions by the observer, or a competitor’s failure to hear an observer’s report, will not be grounds for granting redress.

  8. Individual Recalls:
    In addition to displaying code flax “X” in accordance RRS 29.1, the Race Committee may hail, or announce by VHF radio channel 80, the sail numbers of boats subject to individual recall. The failure to do so, an incorrect or late hail or announcement, or the order in which sail numbers are hailed or announced shall not be grounds for redress. This changes RRS 62.1.

  9. Time Limit:
    There is a time limit on each leg of the course. The time limit for leg one is Friday, July 23rd at 24:00 hours, and the time limit for leg two is Saturday, July 24th at 17:00 hours*. Any boat which has not finished within the limit will be awarded the last finisher’s place plus two places. (i.e. The last boat to finish at or before the time limit is fifth (5th) place, all other boats that have not finished and are still on the course will be awarded seventh (7th) place.) This changes rules 35 and A4. A broadcast via VHF radio channel 80 will be made when the time limit is passed.

  10. Scoring:
    The corrected time for each yacht will be calculated using the PHRF ratings and the distance shown on the Notice of Race.

  11. Protests and requests for redress:
    Yachts must notify the Race Committee at the Finish Line via VHF radio channel 80 of their intention to file a protest.
    Protest forms are available in Gore Bay at the CYC office and in Little Current at the Little Current Yacht Club.

    Protests and requests for redress must be filed with the Race Committee within one and one-half (1½) hours of the protesting boat’s finish time at the end of each leg, unless otherwise notified by the Race Committee.

    All protests and requests for redress will be heard in Little Current at the end of leg two.

  13. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS-4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

 

 

* Please be assured that all possible actions will be taken to shorten course so that all boats can reach the finish line before 17:00 hours.
